Rumpelstiltskin
ANNOTATE by writing directly in the book all 10 tales using the guidelines for annotation. You will turn in the hard copy of the book with these annotations. See below how to properly annotate..
How to annotate text while reading: 10 annotation strategies you might find helpful:
- Circle unfamiliar words. Then look them up, and write down the definition.
- Use question marks to indicate areas of uncertainty.
- Use stars to indicate anything that seems important, such as themes, symbols, foreshadowing, etc. and briefly identify or comment. For example, the annotation might look like *symbol/fear or *theme/beware of strangers or *the color red
- Use exclamation points to indicate something dramatic and/or a key turning point.
- Circle character names any time they are introduced for the first time.
- Keep a list somewhere, maybe on the inside cover, of all the characters and their traits. Add to this list as new characters are introduced, or as you learn more about existing characters.
- Paraphrase (summarize) each story after you finish reading it. You only need a few sentences to do this. Write it down at the beginning or end of the chapter, wherever there is enough blank space.
- Write down any questions you have about the text. These may be concepts you want to look up later, but they could also be just questions you have about the story. For example, you could ask “Why is Rumplestiltskin so creepy”?
- Write down “internal dialogue” meaning the thoughts that spring into mind as you read. For example, you could write “what?! That wolf is crazy!” or “I wish I could tame pigeons and other animals to clean my room!”
- Write down connections to your life or experiences, things you thought about as you read. For example, you could write “This reminds me of when I was young and was scared of the dark.” Anything that triggers a response works.
